Encaustic art in Blenz for Artwalk 09
Throughout July & August 2009, for the Whistler Art Council’s Artwalk, I will be displaying and selling Encaustic Artwork in Blenz, Whistler.
So come check it out…
Below are a couple of new pieces created specially for the exhibition.

For those of you who havent heard of ‘Encaustic Art’ before it is an old art form created by melting wax on to the sole plate of an Encaustic iron and applying it to special painting card or canvas using various techniques to build up images, textures and effects. “This 2000 year old art form was used by the ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Romans. Encaustic means “burnt in”. It utilises Beeswax mixed with pigments and resins as a lightfast painting medium. This medium is painted with in hot form, usually with an iron although a hot stylus, brush or air gun can be used for certain effects.” – description from www.encaustic.com
Artwalk
Artwalk is a free walking tour showcasing the incredible talent of 71 regional artists and artisans in 40 host galleries during July and August. ArtWalk features the work of regional artists in Whistler cafes, retail outlets, commercial galleries, hotels and restaurants. Artists from LionsBay to Lillooet showcase works of painting, photography, multi-media, pottery and jewellery.ArtWalk bridges the gap between tourism, business and culture in this free two-month walking tour that brings local art to high-traffic venues. In 2009, Cultural Capitals of Canada funding assistance has enabled us to offer special guided tours by local artists throughout the summer.
